Join the Big Brothers Big Sisters Alumni Board today!

We have over three decades of changing the lives of children in our community and we would love to hear what those children have grown up to achieve as adults. If you are a former Little, we strongly encourage you to share how your mentor changed your life, and join our Alumni Board.

Purpose:

Big Brothers Big Sisters Alumni Board is composed of youth and adults who have been enrolled as Little Brothers and Little Sisters in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Their purpose is to:

• Be an advocate of Big Brothers Big Sisters
• Share stories about the Big Brothers Big Sisters experience
• Provide advice, expertise and perspective to the Big Brothers Big Sisters Strategic Planning Committee
• Stay connected with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program into adulthood
• Connect others to the Big Brothers Big Sisters program
• Contribute ideas to expand our outreach and support
• Stay informed about our newest programs and upcoming activities

Membership Criteria:

Any youth who has been enrolled in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program anywhere in the world is eligible to serve on the Alumni Board.  There are no age limits.

Membership Opportunties:

Participate in agency activities such as Speakers Groups, the Government Relations Committee, and agency fundraisers

• Speak on behalf of the agency at United Way campaign meetings
• Speak at Agency Orientation meetings and Board meetings
• Provide testimonials at Little Moments big Magic Luncheons
• Host a table or bring a friend to a Little Moments Big Magic Luncheon
• Call, write or visit with elected officials
• Participate in Bowl for Kids' Sake or other fundraising events
• Plan a Magic While You Wait event
• Attend other external events such as match activities, mixers and press conferences

Serve on the Alumni Board Executive Committee

• President - assist with the scheduling and planning of meetings and Board goals and objectives; preside over meetings
• Vice-President - assist the President and act as proxy in his/her absence
• Secretary - responsible for taking and distributing meeting minutes
• Treasurer - review and report on Board budhet (if applicable)

Rainbow Graduation

Big Brothers Big Sisters recently inducted its newest members of the Alumni Board while celebrating this special group of students who enrolled in our program as Little Brothers and Little Sisters and have now graduated from high school in 2011.

The ceremony, called the Rainbow Graduation, was held on Thursday, June 30, 2011at the El Tropicano Hotel, and was held to celebrate their achievement and formerly induct the group into the Alumni Board. 

Roughly 20 Littles attended the event (pictured above), along with their friends and family members.  In addition, several Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas Board members attended the event as well.

It was the inaugural event for what we hope will be an annual tradition of Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas, and will reinforce the fact that our program is changing our community for the better.

Following the event, the newly graduated Littles were treated to a pizza and pool party at the El Tropicano Hotel.  A special thanks to the Tropicano, as well as Pizza Patron for providing the pizza.  We look forward to next year!
