Do you want your child to have a Big Brother or Big Sister?
All children between the ages of 5 and 17 are eligible for the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. The program is free – all you have to do is give us some information about you and your child, tell us about your child’s interest in an interview, and we will find a volunteer to mentor your child.
While we are finding the right Big Brother or Big Sister for your child, they will be on the Ready-To-Be-Matched list and will be able to attend Magic While You Wait events. These events are traditional held on Saturdays and are free for Ready-To-Be-Matched children.
Volunteers are thoroughly screened. Our staff works hard to find a Big Brother or Big Sister that will have similar interests with your child to help make the relationship more natural. Our goal is to make matches that blend the needs of your child with the skills, abilities and interests of the adult.
We ask volunteers for a minimum of a one-year commitment and to visit their Little Brother or Little Sister from two to four hours every other week. We try very hard to match boys with to men and girls to women. In some circumstances, boys are matched with women or a Big Couple. You will be given notice when a volunteer is found for your child and you have the opportunity to consent to the mentoring relationship.
Each match is assigned a professionally-trained staff member who works closely with the volunteer, child and you throughout the child/volunteer match to provide guidance and support.
