The Search Institute is an independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide leadership, knowledge, and resources to promote healthy children, youth, and communities. They have identified certain assets as building blocks of healthy development that help young people grow up healthy, caring, and responsible.

Big Brothers Big Sisters measures the development of 21 critical assets of children matched in the program who improve or maintain the assets needed in order to grow up to be contributing, productive successful adults. The following results were reported for children matched in 2008.
