Get ready to Fiesta with the Big Brothers Big Sisters 2024 Fiesta medal! This year, we’re excited to share a story that’s as sweet as a confetti-filled cascarón. Meet Armen Babajanian and Maddy Dillon, two seasoned mentors who found a different kind of “match” at one of our mixers five years ago.
Armen and his Little brother, Tyler, were paired up in 2003. Today, Tyler works for a medical device company and lives in Everett, Washington.
Maddy met her Little Sister, Illiana, in 2016. Illiana, now 16, is interested in a possible welding career at the moment. She and Maddy like getting bubble teas or bean and cheese tacos, attending BBBS events, volunteering at the food bank, and going swimming.
Armen and Maddy had been weaving their mentorship magic in our program for many years before their paths finally crossed. Despite their long tenure, fate had yet to bring them together until that particular mixer. Little did they know that their shared commitment to mentorship would lead to something even more special. This March, Armen and Maddy tied the knot, proving that sometimes the best matches are made at Big Brothers Big Sisters! Their journey from mentors to mates is a heartwarming testament to the bonds formed through our program. Armen’s Little Brother, Tyler, traveled in for the wedding where they posed for pictures, showing how much taller Tyler has grown, coming in a 6 ft 7 in. to Armen’s 6 ft 3 in.
For those not in the know, Fiesta is San Antonio’s annual extravaganza celebrating the city’s vibrant culture. It’s a time of colorful parades, lively music, and, of course, collectible medals that are as prized as a front-row seat at the Battle of Flowers Parade.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters 2024 Fiesta medal isn’t just a shiny souvenir. It’s a symbol of the amazing connections created through mentorship. This year’s medal will also help us recruit more mentors, so we can continue to make these magical matches happen.
