Our 2025 Fiesta Medal features Big Sister Cecilia and Little Sister Isabella. Isabella was chosen as the 2024 Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas Reina Chica. Our Reina Chica and Rey Chico highlight a female little and a male little who have been matched in our program. Each year the Reina Chica and Rey Chico recipients receive an education scholarship.
Cecilia and Isabella have been matched since 2022. Cecilia wanted to become a mentor to be a constant source a child could rely on. She wanted to be someone they could trust and to help guide them on the right path.
Cecilia says, “I feel like children have so many things going on and their world seems so big when they’re younger. It’s nice to have a familiar face and friend they can always count on and that’s what I aspired to be. Being a mentor for me has been such a fun and eye opening experience.”
Isabella says, “Cece is the best! She is sweet, caring, and funny.”
Cecilia and Isabella have gone on many outings during their time matched and have celebrated their match anniversaries with BBBS. The match loves playing volleyball, cooking, and going out to eat.
Cecilia says, “I hope that I have guided my little in many ways whether big or small, but overall she’s taught me more than I will have ever taught her. Her positive attitude throughout hard times, her big heart shining through, always helping her siblings or thinking of others before herself, and her thoughtfulness in all the small and big ways. She is growing into a beautiful smart young lady before my eyes and I am so lucky to be her big.”

Matches plan outings together in their community. You can chat or play games, go to the park, community events, run errands, go to the library, or work towards a goal together like running a 5k or learning a new skill.
