Women’s History Month

March is Women’s History Month, a time to honor and celebrate the contributions of women throughout history. It’s also a time to reflect on the progress that’s been made and the work that still needs to be done to achieve gender equality. One way to make a difference in the lives of young girls and help empower the next generation of women is by becoming a Big Sister mentor.

Big Sister is a program that matches adult women with girls between the ages of 6 and 16. The goal of the program is to provide girls with positive role models and support systems as they navigate the challenges of growing up. By spending time with their Big Sisters, girls gain confidence, develop new skills, and learn important life lessons.

There are many reasons why someone should consider becoming a Big Sister mentor. Here are just a few:

  1. Make a difference in a young girl’s life: By becoming a Big Sister, you have the opportunity to make a real and lasting impact on a young girl’s life. You can help her build self-esteem, set goals, and develop important life skills.
  2. Be a positive role model: Many girls don’t have positive female role models in their lives. By being a Big Sister, you can help fill that gap and show girls what it means to be a strong, confident woman.
  3. Learn new things: Mentoring is a two-way street. Not only can you teach your Little Sister new things, but you can also learn from her. You may discover new interests or perspectives that you never considered before.
  4. Build a meaningful relationship: The bond between a Big Sister and Little Sister can be incredibly powerful. By spending time together, you can build a relationship that lasts a lifetime.
  5. Give back to your community: Mentoring is a great way to give back to your community and make a positive impact on the world around you

If you’re interested in becoming a Big Sister mentor, there are a few things you should know. First, the commitment is significant. You’ll need to commit to spending at least four hours a month with your Little Sister for a minimum of one year. You’ll also need to pass a background check and go through a screening process to ensure you’re a good fit for the program.

But the rewards of being a Big Sister far outweigh the commitment. You’ll have the opportunity to make a difference in a young girl’s life and help shape the future of women everywhere. So why not sign up today and become a Big Sister mentor? Together, we can make a difference.
