Our Mentoring Programs

Becoming a mentor is a fun, life-changing experience!  We call our mentors Big brothers and Big Sisters. Bigs & Littles embark on new adventures, leading to strong bonds and life-enriching experiences for both. When you become a Big, you are positively influencing the trajectory of a child’s life.

Community-Based Mentoring

Community-based mentoring is the traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters one-to-one mentoring program. Bigs are matched with children (Littles) who are facing adversity. Once a match has been made, Bigs and Littles can spend time in the community doing activities they enjoy. Bigs need access to reliable transportation and must be able to commit to a minimum of 12 months in the program. All volunteers must complete a screening process and training curriculum before being matched with a child. This includes a background check, references, and an interview.

Benefits:

  • Flexible scheduling to fit your availability
  • Long-positive impact on a Little
  • Explore new interests through events and activities with your Little

Requirements:

  • Meet 1+ time a month
  • 1-year minimum commitment

Workplace Mentoring Program

The Workplace Mentoring program allows Big Brothers Big Sisters to partner with local employers to provide employees the opportunity to mentor at lunchtime.  Youth are transported by bus to the workplace to meet with their mentors. Matches play games, work on activities, and get to know each other during the lunch hour.  This experience not only provides students with mentors, but with valuable workplace exposure.

Benefits:

  • Conveniently volunteer at your place of employment
  • Teach children about your career
  • Volunteer with your coworkers
